Making Up Snow Days

By June, let’s be honest… kids are DONE. The second the warm weather hits, everyone is mentally in summer mode. Camps are starting, vacations are planned, pools are opening, and trying to squeeze makeup snow days into the last few weeks of school feels pointless. Half the class is distracted, the classrooms are hot, and nobody is pretending those extra days are super productive anyway. After a long school year, kids deserve a real start to summer without dragging the school calendar deeper into June.

Our children should not be a secondary consideration to adult services. The long-standing Homeless Men’s Shelter on State Street sits directly adjacent to East McDowell Middle School, creating a daily, unacceptable threat to student safety. Marion’s kids shouldn’t face erratic behavior on their walk to local classrooms. We are not safe, and our schools are not secure.
